ABL Info: Playoff Format



Six teams will qualify for the 1998 ABL Playoffs, as follows:
  • The first and second-place teams from each conference
  • The two teams with the next best records, regardless of conference
The playoff will consist of three rounds. The first round and semi-final round will be best-of-three, and the championship round will be best-of-five.

The two Conference Champions will receive byes for the first round, and will be seeded No. 1 and No. 2, based on regular season record. The remaining four teams will be seeded No. 3 through No. 6 based on regular season record. In the opening round, No. 3 will play No. 6, and No. 4 will play No. 5. Winner advance to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final round the No. 1 seeded Conference Champion will play the winner of No. 4 vs. No. 5 series, and the No. 2 seeded Conference Champion will play the winner of No. 3 vs. No. 6 series.

The Championship Series will match the two semi-final winners.

Conference Champions will have home court advantage in the semi-final round, regardless of regular season records. In the other rounds, the team with the best regular season record will have home court advantage. The precise home and away schedules for each round will be determined at a later date, taking into consideration arena availability. The League will attempt to schedule the opening game of each series on the court of the team with the home court advantage.
